Make Child Poverty History
Save the Children

"Save the Children fights for children in the UK and around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence. They work with them to find lifelong answers to the problems they face."

What do they do?

Save the Children works in the UK and across the world.

Emergency relief runs alongside long-term development and prevention work to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient. They learn from the reality of children's lives and campaign for solutions to the problems they face. They gain expertise through their projects around the world and use that knowledge to educate and advise others.

They work in the following areas:

Education
Education gives children from poor families a route out of poverty. But many children never get the chance to go to school. Save the Children works to help the poorest children go to school and to make sure that school is somewhere worth going - with books, equipment, and teachers who are trained and turn up every day.

Child Protection
No child should have to grow up in fear and without hope. But millions do. And poverty, family breakdown and violence mean many end up in trouble with the law. Save the Children works with children at risk in the UK and around the world to protect them from violence, and help them change their lives.

Emergencies
In emergencies, children are at great risk. Whether they are caught up in natural disasters - like earthquakes, floods and drought - or wars and conflict, children are often in the most danger, are more likely to get sick and be exploited, and are often separated from their families. Save the Children saves and transforms lives in emergencies. As well as basic humanitarian aid, they also set up medical centers and schools, and trace children and families, reuniting them where possible.

Healthcare
This year, 11 million children - the same as the total number of children in the UK - will die from diseases that could be prevented or easily treated if healthcare was affordable and fair. But it's not, and it's the poorest children who are paying the highest price. Save the Children is working to make sure that children no longer die of preventable and treatable diseases just because they're poor.

How can I help?

By investing your CTF voucher in a stakeholder or shares account through this site you can help under-privileged children around the world.

A donation will be made to Save the Children for every account opened where additional contributions are paid. The individual donations we expect to make to Save the Children will be enough for:

  • Primary school materials for 2 children for a year in Somaliland
  • 2 hygiene kits including soap, toothbrush, comb, shampoo and towel for vulnerable children in Peru
  • Enough cereal seed for two families of 6 to produce a months supply of grain in Sudan
  • 4 children to be immunised against measles in Liberia
